Gingyville is looking for residents
There is a lovely piece of real estate that is looking for some Gingerbread Families to move in. New houses are under construction and the residents will move in on November 1st. The candy paved paths allow folks to walk & visit as well as leading to the river. Gingerfolk can bring their pets. They also should bring items to decorate the landscape. Gingyville will be located underneath the Woodcarver’s 2021 tree for Hiawatha Homes’ Festival of Trees.
We need people to create wooden gingerbread people, children, pets and landscape pieces. These pieces can be flat (like cookies) or 3-D or even something in between.
Ideas for patterns can come from cookie cutters, kid’s picture books or any number of places. (Some ideas are included below.) Features and clothing can be carved or painted. (A chip carved sweater sounds neat. Puffy/3D clothing paint looks like sugar icing.) A full sized adult can be 6 inches tall.
In addition to just standing, consider making folks that are in action, like throwing a snowball, walking a dog (or pet snake), sitting on a bench or kicking a ball. Remember that it will be winter when the Gingerfolks arrive, hence snowshoes are more appropriate than skateboards.
Landscape pieces can be semi-realistic or fantasy based; possibly cupcake shrubs, ice cream cone trees or even a lollipop woods. There is room for turned trees and bushes – including highly stylized varieties.
Our 6 foot tree will be decorated with your own homemade wooden ornaments. Like normal, we need folks to create ornaments in whatever style they like for the tree. These do not need to follow any theme, just be appropriate for a Christmas tree.
Size (all sizes are rough suggestions – people, houses and trees all come in many sizes)
A full sized adult can be 6 inches tall.
Walls of the houses are 8 inches tall.
Nothing should be over 12 inches tall.
All Gingyville items for under the tree need to be turned in by Halloween – October 31st.
The deadline for ornaments on the tree is at the club’s November meeting on the 20th.
Any items can be dropped off at our monthly meetings or by making arrangements with Laurie or Mike.
It is extremely important to make sure that you inform the Tree Team if you are making any pieces for under the tree. (We have contacted all known item makers by e-mail – if you have not heard from us, we do not know what you are planning!)
Intentions and Questions:
Please address your intentions for carvings or questions to Show@RochesterWoodcarvers.Com
If you do not have a good way for your pieces to stand upright, the Tree Team can offer some suggestions or even handle this after you deliver the pieces.
Ideas for Shapes
Drawings and ideas for shapes and styles will be added soon.
Sorry! I ran out of time to get the drawings loaded,
now I need to run out of town.
I expect to get these up on Monday.
