2021 Virtual Show Guidelines
Rochester Woodcarver’s 2021 Virtual Show Guidelines
Submission Rules and Updates/Changes listed below.
General
This will be our first try doing a Virtual Show. Our Virtual Team is open to ideas and suggestions, but given that it’s the first go round, we are trying to Keep It Simple!
(In the spirit of Simple, the terminology stating carver, carvings… includes turner, turnings…)
Any current member of the Rochester Woodcarvers or the Zumbro Valley Woodturners clubs can have a virtual table to display a number of photos. There will be no fees for having a table.
The show will be on the club’s website. The main show page will have a list of the member tables. A photo of a carving will be used as the link to a separate web page for each individual – their “Virtual Table”. Each table will have thumbnails of the carving photos. Clicking on any thumbnail will open a slideshow of that member’s photos. Members can include some text description for each photo. A photo of the carver is encouraged, but optional.
As with our Annual Show, the presenter is free to choose what to display (recent, best, my first …). The number of photos of your work is limited between a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 10. Multiple pieces can be included in a single photo.
Like in the past, beginner’s carvings are welcomed. If there are any groups like Community-Ed class members or the Carve-In group, they can have a table as well.
In addition, members are encouraged to submit a photo of one item to be included in an “On-line People’s Choice”. There will be a separate page that shows all of the Choices and information on how to vote.
The Virtual Show page will have a link to a separate page that lists people that have carvings to sell along with vendors with carving related items. These individuals will need to have their own website – we will provide a link to those sites or emails. Please contact the Virtual Team to work out details.
Please help advertise the show using any forms you have available, including Facebook, Twitter, putting a sign in your yard, flagging down passing cars …
Submission Rules
Work Piece Photos – 1 to 10 photos of your work. Multiple pieces can be included in a photo. Captions can be included if desired.
Selfie – We would like the visitors to have a feel for each of the carvers presenting. We encourage you to include one photo of yourself. This can be a formal portrait or you doing your carving or even you on a sled with your grandkid. While encouraged, this photo is not required.
Carver’s Comment – A sentence or three with a description about who you are. Maybe your preferred style or how long (or short) you have been carving. Again this is to help visitors get to know you. This is optional.
People’s Choice – If you wish, include a single photo to be on the People’s Choice Page. The presentation will be anonymous – the creators’ names will remain secret until voting ends.
Total Count – The number of photos submitted is up to 10 work pieces plus 1 Selfie plus 1 people’s choice resulting in a maximum of 12.
Photo Format – Images should have enough pixels to show up as a good photo. A minimum of 1024 pixel height/width is recommended. JPG format is preferred. (If you are in doubt about your photos, contact the Virtual Team or even send a test photo.)
Deadline – The deadline for submissions is April 30.
Members should send their photos to the Virtual Team or arrange some other pickup/delivery.
People are encouraged to provide their own photos. (Here is a link that has a 3 minute video with some simple ideas for Photographing Your Carvings.)
We have a few members that are willing to help take photos for the folks who need some assistance. Contact the Virtual Team for instructions about arranging a photographer to help.
If people wish to have short videos, they will be responsible for creating and posting them to the public themselves, for example on YouTube. A link to the video will be on their Table’s page. The video should include a reference and link to our Show and website. Some reasons for making a video include: a project that is so large or so detailed that multiple shots are needed; the process to create a project is described.
The Virtual Team’s email address is: Show@rochesterwoodcarvers.com
These Guidelines will be updated as further details are pinned down.
